July Favourites

My July Favourites

My first is a favourite hotel of mine, the Lake Hotel in Killarney.  I'm not going to do a full review here but I did one on Trip Advisor if you want to go check it out & I'm hoping to do a full post soon with more photos.  I will say that it was my third visit & I'll be heading back again.

This already feature on my empties post & I have repurchased, I love using this.  I use it almost every day & find that my skin is so much brighter & dewy, instead of foundation I mix this with my concealer or some tinted day cream.  I'm hoping to do a full review soon so watch out for that & I have another product from this range to try so maybe that will be in next months favourites post.

While I was in Killarney, I couldn't resist a trip to Murphys Ice Cream.  I wish they had a store in Cork!  I'm not a big ice cream fan but they make my all time favourite "Dingle Sea Salt" flavour.

I picked this up in Penneys & honestly, I wish I'd bought another.  The quality isn't great, it's made of cardboard but the colours are perfect for my bedroom colour scheme so I'm going to use it for either make up brushes or cotton wool, still is a pretty good buy for €2.

Hope you enjoyed my "July Favourites" post!  What did you discover in July?  Leave the links below, I'd love to see your posts!

Have a great week!

Empties July 2016

A quick post on "Empties", the products I've finished up this month & my thoughts on them.

Baylis & Harding 'Beauticology' Fragrance Mist
Boots Fresh & Tingly Mint & Tea Tree Conditioner
Boots Botanics Radiance Balm
Bourjois Healthy Mix Gel Foundation
L'Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray

I absolultely love this, as you can tell, since I cut off the top to get to the product!  That is a fault with the packaging, that there is quite a lot of product left, but that's the only fault for me with this.   I'm going to do a full review on my blog soon.
It's half price at the moment too so of course I have repurchased.

I love the Boots Fresh Range & the range has featured on some previous posts.  All the scents smell amazing but I particularly like this one.  We get through the conditioners pretty quickly as I use it on my daughters long hair, it's really good for detangling.   My own hair did feel nice & fresh after use, the smell lingers & the conditioner left my hair really soft.
I've already repurchased these, both the shampoo & conditioner.

I think every girl goes through these pretty quickly, this was good value but the spray button did get stuck & made it really annoying to use where as if I'd had the smaller one, I wouldn't have lost so much product at the end.  The smaller can is also more handbag and travel friendly, it's still the best hairspray I've ever used so I'll be repurchasing, just the smaller size.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Gel Foundation
I still haven't found a foundation that makes me go 'Wow', I heard such great things about this & while it wasn't disappointing, it's just not for me.  I got it in the shade Light Beige but it was still too dark & I found it slighlty watery.  It's low coverage as well, in fairness, it does say that on the bottle so I only wore it at the weekends when I had time to apply powder over it. Won't be repurchasing but I did finish it up & I'm glad I gave it a try.

I picked this up at my local pharmacy, sorry, the writing didn't come out well at all in the photo.  It's from Baylis & Harding, part of their 'Beauticology' range.   It's a fragrance mist & only costs a few euro & while it's not earth shattering, I really enjoyed using it.  This is in the scent 'Pink Grapefruit & Raspberry', which instantly appealed to me as I love anything with grapefruit!  I got loads of complements on the smell.   I'm looking forward to trying out more scents & will post a review soon.

Hope you enjoyed this short post, if you have done an "Empties" post lately, I'd love to read it, please leave a link in the comments below.
Enjoy the rest of the week!

Week in Photos #11

A walk near our home, this little pebble beach is so pretty & we spent ages there skimming stones!

A theatre group came to our town recently, called the Living Space Project & had a lots of little events going on, this is Taegan at the Gruffalo puppet show.

My latest attempt at cake decorating, this was for my cousin's 21st birthday, he's studying chemistry at college.  I was really nervous about this as there were  a lot of people at the party but it was a great night & he loved it.

Some mid week pampering with Sanctuary Spa.  I enjoyed using this but have still to find one that trumps my Boots Witchhazel & Tea Tree face mask.

The kids heading off to their summer camp this week.

Hope you enjoyed the post.

Shopping Haul/ How I spent my Birthday

I've had this post drafted for quite a while, my birthday was the end of May but I never got around to putting all the photos together, I thought it would be fun to do a little post on how I spent my birthday & incorporate a shopping haul!

Hubby asked me to book the day off, and he had arranged a day off also & for his parents to pick up the kids from school.

First off was a lovely breakfast in bed with lots of hugs & kisses from the kids as they got ready for school.

After that, he had to tell me where we were going, since I didn't want a birthday present, he decided to take me shopping for the day so I put on a comfy outfit & most importantly, comfy shoes!

Black top & jeans from Dunnes Stores
Shirt from Awear
Bag & shoes from Penneys

Comfy shoes!

We headed into the city & hit a few shops before a stop in Nandos for a long lunch

Chicken & Quinoa salad, it was amazing!

After that, we hit a few more shops & headed home but the damage was done!

Here's what I bought!

My Lush purchase

New Look.  I also have this in pale pink, I love the material & the fit, I'd have one in every colour if I could!

More comfy shoes from Penneys, all bargains at €3/€4 each, and yes, I bought a second pair of the white ones!

Love this shirt but it's not a great fit, I'll wear it open for the summer though.

Always some cute accessories from Penneys

Grey Waistcoat from New Look, I've already gotten so much wear out of this

Can't resist picking up candles & make up accessories from Penneys

Gorgeous scarf from New Look.  I have loads of scarves but I think this will be great in all seasons so was very happy, especially since it was in the sale for €6.50

Fell in love with this perfume trio set in L'Occitane, my mum had given me some money to treat myself so I picked this up, love all three scents.  I'm currently on the first bottle & it is lasting ages so very happy with this purchase.

Of course, I had to pick up some jewellery in Penneys, this is a lovely rose gold colour & looks great

This was my present from the kids, a new addition to my Pandora bracelet

My final purchase, the Clarins Lip Comfort Oil, been loving this, I got the raspberry one, love that it's not sticky or tacky at all & really moisturises my lips & the gloss is really long lasting.

Of course, it wouldn't be a birthday celebration without a cake, my parents in law joined us for a slice & we finished it off afterwards washed down with a glass of wine.

It's become tradition now that every birthday & Christmas my mum or brother & sister buy me my favourite Champagne truffles.

Such a lovely treat to finish the day, don't worry, I didn't eat them all at once!

I met up with my family in the following days & was lucky enough to get lots of lovely cards & vouchers, I do love my vouchers!

I hope you enjoyed this post, I always love reading these kind of posts & this was really fun to put together.

Have a great weekend!

Try It Out Thursday - Stir Fried Beef with Oyster Sauce

This weeks post is a favourite of mine to cook at the weekends & to cook if we are having friends over.

It takes a little time with the marinate but is easy to cook.  I make it when I am craving a Chinese takeaway.

You may have to buy one or two store ingredients but they are all worth having in the cupboard.

450g beef (I bought it already cut into strips from the butcher or supermarket)
1 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp white rice vinegar
2 tsp cornflour
3 tbsp groundnut oil

1 red pepper & 1 green pepper, diced
3 tbsp oyster sauce
2 spring onions, shredded or cut, to garnish

1.Put beef strips in a bowl. Mix in the soy sauce, sesame oil, white rice vinegar and cornflour. Leave to marinate for at least 20 minutes.

2. Heat a wok until it is very hot, then add the groundnut oil. When it is slightly smoking, add the beef strips and stir-fry for 5 mins or until lightly browned.

3. Remove the meat from the wok and drain well in a colander set inside a bowl. Discard the drained oil.

4. Wipe the wok clean and reheat it over a high heat. Add the peppers, and cook for 3-4 mins or until softened. Add the oyster sauce and bring it to a simmer. Return the drained beef slices to the wok and toss them thoroughly with the oyster sauce. Turn the mixture on to a serving platter, top with the spring onions and serve immediately.

I forgot to take a photo of the finished dish!  Sorry!  You'll just have to trust me, served up with rice & prawn crackers, it looks impressive & tastes amazing!

If you've done a recipe post lately, please leave a link below, I'd love to see it & if you do make this, please let me know how you got on!
Hope you enjoyed the post!
